The man who took Viagra in Ireland has been jailed for four years.

In September 2014, the defendant, who also worked for the police, pleaded guilty to the crime of unlawfully purchasing Viagra over the internet.

The guilty verdict was announced today at court as part of the ongoing investigation into the illegal purchase of Viagra in Ireland, following the conviction of his brother, Martin, and a trial by the High Court in London.

Judge Ruth Brauer found Martin guilty of one count of purchasing Viagra over the internet, one count of unlawfully purchasing Viagra over the internet and three counts of possession of counterfeit drugs, following his arrest on suspicion of possessing and supplying a controlled substance, and for possession of a counterfeit prescription drug.

Martin was sentenced to five years in prison, with an enhancement of four years to be followed by three years’ imprisonment for his role in the purchase of Viagra.

In his plea agreement, Martin said: ““I buy the pills over the internet as I have done for the last six months.”

“I was not aware of the drugs and prescription drugs which I bought.”

Martin’s sister, Charlotte, admitted to the offences in relation to the purchase of Viagra, including the pills in the case of Viagra.

After she told a judge yesterday that the drug was not her primary concern, Martin was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for the crime.

Martin was convicted of the purchase of Viagra over the internet

A jury in Dublin, where the case is being prosecuted by Assistant Director of Police McGrady, found Martin guilty of the purchase of Viagra over the internet, with an enhancement of four years’ imprisonment.

The case involves a company called Cialis which claims that it offers the drug to customers in the UK in exchange for a prescription.

The company is based in Dublin, but has made similar purchases in other parts of Europe.

Martin was sentenced by Dublin District Court Justice Richard McGrady to three years’ imprisonment for the criminal offence and a three year sentence for the possession of counterfeit drugs.

Martin was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay €6,000 to the victim’s immediate family to help in the defence of his case.

Martin’s sister Charlotte told the court that she felt that the drug was “very important” to her, and that she “felt that it could be of use” to her family.

The jury heard that in 2014, the defendant purchased the pills at an online pharmacy in the Northern Ireland.

Martin sold the pills for €2.5 million in euros to a customer, who then paid the purchase price of €2,000. The €2,000 was for the purchase of the drug, as a “personal prescription”.

Martin’s sister said that the pill was a prescription for the “personal prescription” and the €2,000 was for the purchase of the medication.

She said: “The pills had been prescribed by a doctor and had been bought for personal use in Ireland for a period of six months.

“The pills were counterfeit and contained no active ingredients.”

The defendant was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for the offence and a three year sentence for the possession of counterfeit drugs.

Interactions

A. Top Drug-Drug Interactions:

1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).

2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.

3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.

Other Drug-Drug interactions:

  • Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to manage fungal infection)
  • Protease inhibitors (used to manage HIV infection) Ex. ritonavir, lopinavir
  • Phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (medicines used for fits)
  • Rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (medicines used for bacterial infections)
  • Other medicines used to improve blood flow to the penis (Ex. sildenafil)

B. Drug-Food Interactions:

Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:

  1. Grapefruit and Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruit can increase the levels of tadalafil in your blood by interfering with its metabolism. This may amplify side effects, such as headaches, dizziness, or low blood pressure. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Cialis.
  2. Alcohol: Drinking alcohol with Cialis can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of the medication, leading to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Limiting alcohol intake is recommended while using Cialis.
  3. High-Fat Meals: While Cialis can be taken with or without food, consuming it with a high-fat meal may delay its onset of action. Opt for lighter meals if rapid effectiveness is needed.
  4. Caffeine: Though not a direct interaction, combining Cialis with high caffeine intake might worsen side effects like headaches or increase heart rate in sensitive individuals.

Nitrates and alpha-blockers can also cause a drop in blood pressure that can be dangerous. If using Cialis with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it is recommended that your doctor examine you first before determining if the medication is appropriate for you.

Congo (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. It is advised to avoid these while taking this medication.

Cadmista (norgimate) can also increase tadalafil levels, which can be harmful when combined with Cialis. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, or high-fat diets should avoid this medication.

5. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice or information.

6. To make sure that all of the Cialis or any of the other medications you take are compatible with Cialis or any other medication, follow these tips:

  • Avoid combining Cialis with nitrates, such as isosorbide dinitrate or nitroglycerin, or nitrites, such as carboxymethyl nitrite or isosorbide dinitrate.
  • If you are taking any of the following medications, avoid combining them with Cialis or any other medications containing Cialis:
  • ()

It is especially important not to take Cialis or other medications containing Tadalafil, as it may increase the risk of developing a condition called "nitrates." Nitrates are created by the heart and blood vessels, leading to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Taking this medication with any of the medications containing Cialis may increase the risk of severe hypotension and even stroke.

Taking Cialis with Nitrates, or any of the medications containing nitrates may cause your blood pressure to drop to an unsafe level. This effect may be more dangerous if you take Cialis with Nitrates, or any of the medications containing nitrates. Before taking Cialis, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Heart Problems
  • Low Blood Pressure
